Fireplace TV Mounting in Los Angeles
Above the fireplace is the wall everyone looks at, and the one where a shortcut shows. Two decisions matter: anchoring into the brick or stone so the mount holds for years, and keeping the screen far enough from the firebox that heat never reaches it. We settle both with a tape measure before anything is drilled.
How we do it
Four decisions, made before the drill.
Heat check before layout
We measure mantel depth and note whether the firebox is gas, wood, or purely decorative. If a spot would put the screen in the heat plume, we say so and show you the height that works.
The right anchor for the surface
Sleeve anchors in the face of solid brick, epoxy anchors in stone, never in the mortar joints. On a plaster chimney breast we find the framing behind it instead of trusting the plaster.
Clean drilling in tile and stone
Diamond bits at low speed, a dust shroud on the drill, drop cloths over the hearth. The surround looks the same when we leave as when we arrived, plus a level TV.
Cables around the masonry
Cable cannot pass through solid brick. We route it into the adjacent drywall, through the mantel cavity where one exists, or along a slim painted raceway that follows the surround.

Over fireplace questions.
Is it safe to mount a TV over a fireplace?
Often, yes. A gas insert with a deep mantel pushes heat forward and away from the wall above. An open wood-burning box with no mantel is a different story, and we will tell you if the spot runs too hot for a TV rather than mount it anyway.
Will the TV sit too high to watch comfortably?
We set it at the lowest height the mantel and heat clearance allow, and we look at it from the sofa before tightening anything. On a taller mantel a tilting mount closes the rest of the gap.
Can you mount on stone veneer or stacked stone?
Yes. Veneer needs anchors that reach the substrate behind it, not just the stone, and uneven stacked stone sometimes needs a spacer plate so the mount sits true. We check what is behind the stone before quoting.
Can wires be hidden in a masonry wall?
Not inside the masonry itself. We look for a path through adjacent drywall or a mantel cavity, and where there is none, a painted raceway is the honest option.
